“Centric” Not a Treat   1 comment

I dislike when concepts or systems are makeshiftedly referred to as [something]-centric. I’m okay with the solar system being heliocentric and with the rings indicating a tree’s age being concentric, but as a tacked on suffix, it’s unpalatable. It might be that it’s bi-syllabic or uses phonemes that don’t quite click nicely together. Wherever the funny taste comes from, I don’t want to hear about a LeBron James-centric summer or an individual-centric philosophy. It’s a bad tack-on. Abstain from employing it.
